An Easter Egg Hunt with That Craft Place

It's challenge time at That Craft Place and as always the theme is Anything Goes. 

I thought as Easter is fast approaching (I bought Easter Eggs today) I'd use Easter Egg Hunt Betty and one of the Easter Scrabble Sentiments to make an Easter card. 

I chose pastel springlike colours & kept her bight and cheerful. She looks so excited to be searching for those Easter eggs.

I love every one of the Scrabble Senitments. This Easter one is such fun. I coloured each 'tile' and added cast shadows to make it 3D.

I used two lots of embossed cardstock on my card - the lovely flower embossed cardstock and a sheet of Bassil Basics pink card.

Oldies but Goodies with Make it Crafty

Zoe of Make it Crafty has decided to highlight a few lovely Oldies but Goodies each month to remind everyone of the wonders hidden in the store. I've chosen to combine Sapphire Fairy & Daffodil Dell into this scene on a birthday card. This is for the current challenge at Through the Purple Haze Challenges which is sponsored by Make it Crafty. The theme is Make a Scene. I love combining digis to create scenes - it's loads of fun.

It's difficult to catch on camera but I added Wink of Stella & Stickles Stardust to Sapphire Fairy.

I added Clear Sakura Glaze pen to the sentiment to make it stand out.

That Craft Place Mdf Small Desk Tidy

Wow! I really branched out here and reached into the world of Mdf! A big step for me but I was inspired after seeing Lisa Horton on Hochanda & couldn't wait to try myself. After seeing her demo online it was actually really easy to do & the Remote holder kit she sells goes together like a dream. 

I've never used Decoupage papers before so that was something new & I even mixed my paints to get a close match to the papers. 

I adore the colours and love that my tools are all organised & close at hand.

And now for something completely different - with Powertex

Ok - so now for something completely different! You know how much of a clean and simple crafter I am? Well at a recent craft show I discovered Powertex - the fabric hardening liquid. It's dirty, it's mucky, it's messy - and I LOVED it! My friend signed me up for the workshop mainly to laugh at me being uncomfortable I think, but it backfired as I had a ball! 

You massage the Powertex liquid through natural, or mainly natural fabrics making sure it's covered every fibre (but not soaking wet). Then you can shape the fabric as you want and leave it to air dry. After 24 hrs its stiff, after 3 weeks it's weather resistant so could go in the garden if you want.

On the workshops at the show we used fabric, mdf shapes and fabric with the Powertex to create a broach and a plaque. When we got home we raided the local charity shops for inexpensive natural fabrics and got messy playing. I decided to try to take the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter. I used a bit of tin foil to sculpt the shape of the Sorting Hat & some tiny bits to hold the features of it's face in place until it set. Once dry I brushed some burgundy & gold pigment on to highlight the folds. 

I'm so pleased with how he turned out :D

Transparency with Make it Crafty

It's time for a new challenge at Make it Colourful Challenges with Make it Crafty and as always it's designed to really stretch you. These challenges are great for pushing your boundaries - and if you're like me you'll be amazed at what you manage to create when you give it a go. 

I decided to use one of the new Teenage Love digis and pair it with the curtains from the Theatre Digi Elements set. I used the tools in Craft Artist 2 to remove the white backing of the curtains so we can see them through it. Here's the result!

To give the effect of transparency I coloured the net curtains very lightly, whilst still putting shading in the folds. 

I used the same colours on Teenage Love in the direct view & view through the curtain, but only used the two or thee lighter shades for the areas viewed through the curtains. That meant I was able to add depth & shading, but give the impression of the diluted colours.

The sentiment is from the Doodle Hug Word Chipboard set.

I coloured it with Red Sakura Tiara pen & Red Sakura Glaze pen. It gives a lovely red glossy finish which unfortunately looks much darker in the photos that it is in real life.

A Hiking Birthday card from Make it Crafty

I made this card for my Dad's birthday and realised I didn't share it - so better late than never here it is. Dad has recently joined a local hiking group so is going for a 7 - 8 mile walk each week & is loving it so Adventure Dad was the perfect choice for his birthday card. 

I used part of the Shrub Background in the background. Lots of squiggles to try to give the impression of leaves.

I typed the sentiment and die cut it. I added Sakura Glaze & Sakura Stardust Gel Pen to make the words more vibrant.
