Inspired by a Film or Song at Through the Purple Haze

This week's challenge theme at Through the Purple Haze Challenges is to make something Inspired by a Film or Song. Our sponsor is Sassy Studio Designs and you can win 4 digis from her store.

A few weeks ago I made a spooky scene with the 3D Ledge Mansion House Accessories from the Silhouette Store and my husband commented that it looked like a scene from Scooby Doo. Little did he know that I had  Velma from Scooby Doo to play with this week! I thought she'd look great in the scene so I developed it further to give this:

I added some 'grass' and a Haunted house backing paper to give a more complete scene. I think the paper is from a Die Cuts with a View stack, but I'm not 100&% sure as it was part of a swap I received a few years ago.

I coloured Velma using my trusty Promakers. Red and Orange isn't a combination I use often, but I think it works really well.

 I used:

Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush with Pastel Pink cheeks

Hair - Cocoa, Chestnut, Walnut, Burgundy 

Jumper & Socks - Bright Orange, Orange, Burnt Orange

Skirt - Ruby, Cardinal Red, Burgundy

Book - Green, Lush Green

I outlined her in black as it stood out far too much when the background was a light colour.

I added a wedge to the back so she was freestanding.

I love the effect of this spooky tree! How cool does it look! Amazing that it's just card cut into shapes.  There's even a bat flying past the tree!

Even the fencing is slightly wonky (intentionally so). It's all the little details that add up to make something complete.

Make it Crafty - Make a Scene!

Now I like challenges but this fortnight's one at Digi Galore had me quaking in my boots. I've always been an admirer of the Make in Crafty Digis as I've seen some amazing creations with them, but have never plucked up the courage to try them. Silly I know as they're amazing digis & lots of them have great humour in them! It turns out that after my initial wobbles there really was nothing to worry about - it took a bit of thought, but they were a delight to colour in.

The Theme this challenge is 'Make a Scene' and we were lucky enough to be able to choose several Make it Crafty digis to combine into our own scene. After a lot of tooing and froing (how on earth to choose with so much amazing choice???) I settled on:

Here's my Creation:

I've done some close up pictures as there's so much to take in.

Here's Cupid.

I coloured him with my Coral, Sunkissed Pink & Blush Promarkers and gave him Pastel Pink cheeks and an Antique Pink tongue

His bow and arrow is coloured with a Pilot Gold Super Gel Pen

I added some glitter glue to his wings to give them that sparkle.

The tree was a real challenge for me. I viewed a video on YouTube which gave me some pointers for colouring the trunk & I think it's turned out alright. I tried to add texture to the foliage and grass too.

Trunk - Tan, Cinnamon, Cocoa, Henna, Chestnut, Walnut, Burgundy

Foliage - Leaf Green, Bright Gree, Forest Green, Pine

Grass - Grass, Emerald, Lush Green

I wanted the kissing couple to be nice and bright so coloured them with:

Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush with Pastel Pink Cheeks

Girl

Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna

Top & Shoes - Berry Red, Cardinal Red, Burgundy

Skirt - Purple, Aubergine, Black

Boy

Hair - Cocoa, Henna, Walnut

Jumper & Shoes - Bright Orange, Orange, Burnt Orange

Jean - Denim Blue, Storm Blue*, Midnight Blue

Flowers - Lush Green, Red, Berry Red, Yellow

I made the clouds using my Cloud Mask from Sam's Masks and Stencils. I cut some card to mask the digis on my Cougar Cutting Machine.  I used my Promakers in my Spritzer (I've had this since I was a child but they've recently been re-released under various names). I used Sky Blue and True Blue for the sky, then put the cut out sections of the mask over the sky and spritzed a little Ice Grey 2 on the underside of the clouds to give them a bit more dimension.

As finishing touches I mounted it onto gold card, then onto dark red cardstock. I used a gold Peel Off Sticker from Anita's and cut a gold border with the Memory Box Cherish Die

Through the Purple Haze Challenges - I'm on the DT!!!!

Hi Everyone, I have exciting news to share with you today! As you know I've been following the Through the Purple Haze Challenge blog since it launched a few months ago. I've really enjoyed taking part in the weekly challenges, so when an opportunity came up to apply for the DT I thought I'd give it a go. I wasn't expecting anything to come of it, so was amazed when my application was accepted! It seems like a really nice team of people and the challenges coming up are brilliant so I'm delighted to be part of the team.

My first project as part of the DT is part of the Double Team Challenge where Team A & Team B go up against each other & everyone who enters gets to vote for the winning DT creation so it adds an extra spice.

The challenge this week was to follow a sketch.

Our sponsor for Team A is Stitchy Bear and I had 'Waiting for You' by Priyanka to play with.

I coloured her using my Promarkers and Flexmarkers (shown with a *)

Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush

Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna

Dress - Cerise, Shocking Pink*, Maroon

Wings - Pink Carnation, Cerise, Shicking Pink, Marooon

Foliage - Leaf greem, Bright Green, Pine

Flowers - Pink Carnation, Cerise 

Sky - Powder Blue

I added quite a few layers to add dimension. I cut the Flower Doily and Grass border on my Cougar Cutting Machine. I also designed and cut the 'Hi' sentiment and Tag on it then coloured the mirri card shocking pink to tie in with her dress.

Don't you just love my daisys? They're made by the very talented Sam of Samaflora. I've been itching to use them for a while and thought they fitted this card perfectly!

I also tried a new technique to make the sky. I had a cloud mask from Sam's Masks and Stencils and I followed her tutorial on using Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks with the foam tool to make the clouds. I've owned some Distress Inks for a while now, but this is the first time I've used them. I need to practice and master them more. For the grass at the bottom I dabbed it with Mown Grass Distress Ink on a foam tool.

Simply Betty Witch Mercedes

Betty released Witch Mercedes as the image for the September Fan page Challenge. As anyone who knows her will know she's a little bit Halloween mad (understatement of the century!!!) so the theme was Halloween & Halloween Colours.

As usual I decided to do something a bit different and made a Halloween scene rather than a card. I used the 3D ledge Haunted Mansion Accessories from the Silhouette store to make the 3D tree, bat, tombstone and gate.

Broomstick - Rosewood*, Auburn*, Warm Grey

I made a stand for the back of her so she stands up.

Digi Galore Anything Goes.

Here's my card for this fortnight's 'anything goes' challenge at Digi Galore.  I was lucky enough to have Mindy from our sponsor Karber to play with (if you like her she's in the Sale at the moment).

I used the Cut Out Studios in Craft Artist 2 to make the inside of her dress transparent & added a strawberry patterned paper the Berry Sweet Paper Pack from Sassy Designs behind the gap so it looked as though she had a patterned dress on. As ways I coloured her with my Promarkers. I added Glossy Accents to the balloons to make them more 'Balloon like' :P
