The Topic is The 50's and I immediately thought of my beloved Kenwood Mixer
My Grandma had it from new in the late 1950's and passed it on to me. It's an A700d so the 3rd model they released. Until a couple of years ago it worked beautifully but then the motor started smoking so it was put to the back of a cupboard. I considered selling it last year but realised I was far too emotionally attached to it so instead paid for the motor to be refurbished & Hubby cleaned out the geaabox and it now works like new! Not bad for a machine that's over 40 years old and was used on an almost daily basis for years!
My first card for the challenge actually uses images from the original manual.
I scanned the page in, cropped and then coloured with my Promarkers. It was a very different experience colouring over a black & white image as a lot of the shading was already there. I hope you like the end result. The mat colour is actually a nice teal/ turquoise but it doesn't seem to have come out very well in the photo.

I then decided to make 2 more cards following the 1950's cooking theme. The images and sentiments are all from Create with TLC

Another reason I love Promarkers - I was able to colour my own mat for the image and the sentiment and also change the colour of the light pink ribbon I had :D

They are brilliant Lucy and a great use of the mixer manual for the first one. I don't blame you for not wanting to get rid of it as has lots of sentimental value. x
ReplyDeleteI got as far as taking the photos & starting the listing on Ebay but then burst into tears! I just couldn't do it! I don't use it as often as I should (sometimes the modern food processor is easier ..... modern who am I kidding - that's another inheritance from Grandma so only a mere 20 years old :P) but I love it to bits :D
DeleteWell here's someone who truly understood this challenge. All three of your cards are fantastic Lucy and that mixer looks like one you would buy today (in a 'retro' style) and it would cost you an arm and a leg because it is soooo trendy it hurts!! Your card for our challenge is fabulous. I am a photographer (as well as a crafter) and I have done several picture in Photoshop that I have had to colourise and they haven't come out as good as this one. From now on I may consider using my PM's for this rather difficult (and time consuming) job. Brilliant effort, well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks for entering I ♥ ProMarkers challenge this week and good luck, hope to see you again for a future challenge (trust me, you are really good and I would love to see what you come up with in the future),
take care,
Andy

Thanks Andy, I'm really glad you like them. I was hoping to add them as 3 separate entries to the challenge but it's not letting me at the moment as it says the link is already there.
DeleteDefinitely try colouring with Promarkers rather than using Photoshop - it was actually really quick because the shading is already done so all you really need to do is use one colour and the effect is there. The only thing is I guess you wouldn't be able to print on glossy photo paper.
I'll definitely try to enter some more of your challenges - I'm really enjoying learning how to use my Promarkers so practice practice practice is always good :D
Absolutely fabulous Lucy. I'm in lurve with your mixer and your cards are brilliant. Thanks for taking part at I ♥ Promarkers this week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorraine, I'm really glad you like the mixer and the cards. I had loads of fun making them - something a bit out of the ordinary for me x
DeleteAll three of your cards are brilliant Lucy - all so perfect for our 1950's challenge this week. How clever the first one is and wonderful with the sentimental links. I had a kenwood years ago and sold it when the 'newfangled' food processors came into fashion. How I regret selling the kenwood now, I can tell you. All the images on your cards are great and I love how you coloured in a vintage style. Thanks for playing along with us on I Love Promarkers this week.

Thanks Wynneth, I'm really glad you like them. It's funny how things come in and out of fashion isn't it - for a while things are the height of fashion, then terribly outdated, then wonderfully retro. If you like my Kenwood you should see the scales I use every day - a classic old set of balance scales with oz weights (yes ounces not these new fangled gram things :P) Yet another inheritance from my Grandma! I'm not naturally a vintage person but these two things I love to bits x
Delete.... and I agree - sometimes we do just need cake :D
Forgot to add that I love your sentiment on the first one - I wholeheartedly agree with it LOL

Wow Lucy, these are stunning! What a nostalgia trip that took me on - reminds me of my mum's red formica table and when we got our first fridge lol! Those Kenwoods just go on and on. I've got a modern one and it doesn't have the style of this one. Truly retro! You've done a great job and really captured the feel of the fifties. Lovely job with the Promarkers and much better than doing it in Photoshop!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment on my blog about my stall at the craft show. I did a lot of preparation to get all the labels done etc. and until we actually arrived, I wasn't sure what I'd have and how I'd lay it out, but it all worked perfectly - none of it would have been possible without my brilliant hubby to help! I'm not too worried about not selling much, as I've already had a couple of orders online from the pre-show blog post I did.
I am suffering greatly now, though, having overdone things so much over the last week. I can hardly get off the settee and feel profoundly exhausted and unable to do anything. Hopefully it will pass soon as I've got a great deal to do.
Cake! Bring on the cake! Cake ALWAYS helps!!!
